Cancer Symposia
Since 2002, CAMSA has co-sponsored an Annual Cancer Symposium, which in 2015 was renamed the Dr. Deborah Brathwaite Annual Cancer Symposium in honor of former CAMSA President, Dr. Deborah Brathwaite, who succumbed to cancer in 2013. Dr. Brathwaite was a highly regarded physical medicine and rehabilitation physician at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center and was key to the success of the symposia.
The symposia have provided Caribbean healthcare professionals and community residents in-depth education about various types of cancer with a focus on early detection and screening, risk reduction, treatment, survivorship and palliative care. The symposia are co-sponsored with the Barbados Cancer Association (BACA) USA and the Barbados Nurses Association of America (BNAA). A special, standard feature is a presentation by a Caribbean-based physician on the current state of cancer in the Caribbean.
